“Stay frothed, stay in your wetty, just keep surfing”

We caught up with long-time Sun Bum Ambassador, Rasmus King, at his home in rural Byron Bay. The picturesque cottage was stuffed with incredible records, classic surfboards, instruments, and vintage cars which all seem to have a special place in his life. The more you get talking with Ras, the more you realize that the rad stuff that surrounds him is just stuff. His real treasure is his outlook on life and chasing the things he loves. At the end of our chat, he offered up one bit of advice, “Stay frothed, stay in your wetty, just keep surfing”. Sounds good to us. See you out there Rassy.

Sun Bum:
What’s your Motto?

Rasmus King:
Just stay frothed. Stay in your wetty. Just don't get outta your wetty. Just keep surfing.

Sun Bum:
What if you have to use the bathroom?

Rasmus King:
Just send it. Just go for it.

Sun Bum:
What’s it like growing up on a farm in Byron Bay? Can you tell us about country life as a child in Bryon before it blew up as an international travel destination?

Rasmus King:
It was so good. I mean just having those memories of no one out in pumping waves at The Pass. Just surfing with my brother and my dad then being able to come home to a super quiet place, then me and my brother can make it less quiet with motorbikes and music and playing all sorts of crazy stuff.

Dad’s got a huge collection of old boards, so I've just been going into the shed finding all sorts of old single fins and stuff. I've been really loving that. Just trying everything like Mals and twenties.

Sun Bum:
Can you tell us about your first car?

Rasmus King:
First car is a red Pontiac Trans Am. It's a beast. It's mental. It's from Kentucky. It took a while to get over here, but it's here now and it's so cherry. It's so good

Sun Bum:
Can you legally drive it here yet?

Rasmus King:
No, not legally.

Sun Bum:
So yeah, you're currently pursuing a career in acting. Can you just tell us how that all started?

Rasmus King:
I never thought ever in my life that I'd be acting. I still have to pinch myself. It feels so trippy that I've done three movies now. It's so weird.

Sun Bum:
With no acting classes?

Rasmus King:
I’ve literally done no acting lessons. I didn't know what to expect, but after that first day it just felt like I was supposed to do it. From a very young age, I loved dressing up and becoming different characters and stuff. I don't know, I felt more comfortable being other people than myself. I'd go to school dressed as a pirate and shit when I was a grom.

Sun Bum:
In five years time or ten years time, where do you see yourself?

Rasmus King:
Hopefully I'm doing the same stuff as I'm doing now. Surfing, jamming, acting, and just loving life. Probably gonna build like a little shed up in the backyard and live in that. Yeah. I don't wanna leave Mum's food. It's too good.
