Street Art Hits Long Beach
We don’t talk about it enough on here, but art and the artists who make it are a huge inspiration behind what we do and who we are. So, when POW! WOW! Long Beach invited us to be a part of their week-long, citywide event this month we jumped at the opportunity.
POW! WOW! is a gathering of contemporary artists that engages with local communities all over the world (including Honolulu, Washington DC, Seoul, Taipei, and Tokyo) through the process and creation of art. They’ve been passionate about connecting people through street art since 2010 and continue to create a walkable, bikeable public art experience that everyone gets a chance to be a part of. We support what they do, how they do it, and were absolutely honored to be a part of it.
Along with Art Renzei, PW put on various activations all around the city, one of them being a Beach Party at Alamitos beach. There was live music, a drawing workshop, a film screening, and a few rad art installations—including a sick gold chain made by Balloonski that Sonny got to wear for the day.
We really wanted to find a way to stoke out everyone who made the trek, so we decided to surprise them with a Finders Keepers. We grabbed all the Sun Bum Umbrellas we could, stuck ‘em in the sand, laid out a bunch of beach towels, and signaled for the free for all to begin.
